Natural DIY Home Remedies Against Pimples

- Comments Off on Natural DIY Home Remedies Against Pimples -

Now that we’re in the midst of Lunar New Year celebrations (Lunar New Year lasts 15 days remember?), you’ve probably had your fair share of food, drinks and festivities. Pineapple tarts, love letters, butter cookies, assorted meat, bak kwa, soft drinks, alcohol, and wine are quintessential to the celebrations. No celebration is complete without most (to some of us, all) of these goodies.

For those of us who are unaffected by the larger-than-usual consumption of these food, bless you. However, it is not uncommon if you experience a breakout of pimples on your skin during this period due to excessive consumption. Here, we’ll share with you five simple tricks you can do at home to fight against pimples.

Note: All our skin are different, and it responds differently to different substances and materials, no matter how pure they are. Test it out on a small, less visible area of your skin first.

i) ICE

Ice helps to reduce inflammation, swelling, and itching. Not only that, it also helps improve blood circulation to the affected area. You can use either ice cubes or crushed ice, whichever is convenient to you.

1) Wrap ice cubes or crushed ice using a piece of clean, facial cloth, and hold it against the affected area for a few seconds.
2) Wait for a few minutes, and repeat the process as desired.

ii) EGG WHITE

Not everyone’s favourite, as it could get a little messy, but it works nonetheless. Although eggs are relatively inexpensive, some hesitate to waste an entire egg just to put a dab or two of the egg white onto the face. However, if you happen to be cooking and will be using eggs anyway, all you need to do swipe your finger on the insides of the egg shell to pick up some of the gooey whites. Talk about minimising wastage!

1) Collect some egg whites on a clean bowl. Make sure hands are clean.
2) Dab finger into bowl (or insides of egg shells) and apply onto affected areas.
3) Wash it off after 15-20 mins.
4) For best effect, you can dab some lemon juice first, let it dry, before covering the affected areas with egg white.
5) Remember the keyword: DAB. Not drench. Not soak. Not wash.

iii) APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

diy-ciderApple cider vinegar contains enzymes and gut-friendly bacteria that promotes healing, and also helps to reduce inflammation. Raw apple cider vinegar could prove too strong on the skin, so the suggestion is to dilute it before applying. If you can get past its pungent smell, it actually works pretty well!

1) Apply it once or twice a day on affected areas should be sufficient for most skin conditions.
2) It is not necessary to wash it off, unless you really have to (or can’t stand the smell).

iv) GREEN / BLACK TEA

Green / black tea is renowned for its rich, anti-oxidant properties, and helps to get rid of toxins in the body. It can be taken orally, or used externally.

1) Internal (Consumed): Drink it as a normal beverage, and as often you desire.
2) External (Applied): Freeze green tea into ice cubes, and apply onto affected areas.

v) PREVENTION

Conventional wisdom says that if you keep your skin free from dirt and excess oil, there’re less chances of your pores getting clogged and developing pimples as a result. We can’t disagree with that. However, overcleansing can have the opposite effect by making your sebaceous glands produce more oils instead. The key here is moderation.

The above are five remedies that should help reduce and alleviate basic pimples and skin conditions. If you do not see any visible improvements, stop and seek professional help. Do not attempt to treat advanced pimples / acne / skin conditions on your own, as it will more likely aggravate the situation.

Instead, come on down to Sylvia Skin Atelier for a free professional assessment, and we’ll recommend a suitable treatment for your skin condition.

Afterall, isn’t your skin worth it?
